This is completely selfish, but I am posting my 2018 goal reading list not only so I can stay organized, but also accountable.
Blogging really is as much about reading as it is about writing. Whether you are reading your peer’s blogs or reading personal development books, your blog is dependent on your ability to stay relevant and motivated.
Did you know that the average CEO reads 50 books a year? That comes out to almost a book a week. How many books do you read in a year?
Unless you are 100% happy with your life and you have no dreams left to pursue because you’ve already accomplished them, this book is for you. Hell, even if you are completely happy and perfect, this book is STILL for you.
Whether you are thinking about starting your own business or already have and haven’t put together a complete business plan, I want to share with you what I this is the best book for female entrepreneurs.
This book not only walks you through creating an entire business plan and asks you all the right questions, it lets you in on success stories of Christy Wright and many of her clients. No matter what kind of business you want to start, there will be multiple times in this that you will think “oh my gosh, that’s so me!”
Each chapter ends with action items that you can fill out right in the book or download and print them out separately. These cover everything from finding your why, marketing tactics and even how you are going to price your goods and services. What puts Busienss Boutique above any other book for female entrepreneurs is that it talks about the things you may not want to face, but will have to in a business, like when friends as for something for free or at cost. I wanted to put my hands in the air and yell “YASS!!!” when reading that chapter.
It is such a delight that somehow even though you are only reading a book, it feels like Christy is talking directly to her readers and getting them to pull out their ideas and beliefs. She reveals so much about herself and opens up to the good, bad and the ugly so you know you are not alone in this adventure. She has worked with so many different female entrepreneurs and shares with us their struggles and how they overcame them.
I now have a well thought out plan with goals, how I want to scale my business and tips on how to maintain life that isn’t run by my business. It truly is a dream come true that I found this book because I know I can be successful if I follow my plan. Having a plan is the most important aspect of achieving your goals, and Business Boutique is the way to do just that.
Christy also has a podcast that goes through the points of the book. She also interviews female entrepreneurs that have made their dream a reality!
I was fortunate enough to have a very ambitious boss who is too busy for her own good. Almost a year before an EntreLeadership event in the Chicago area, she bought two tickets to the seminar, as her husband got laid off and they were looking for options. When the seminar came up, he found a new job and was traveling and my boss was still in her first year as CEO, so she passed her tickets on to myself and another employee. I will talk about my experience at the one-day seminar at another time, but Christy was the morning speaker and she came on stage with a lot to say, and had so much passion for helping women.
Dave Ramsey, author of The Total Money Makeover and EntreLeadership: 20 Years of Practical Business Wisdom from the Trenches, may have been the main attraction of the seminar, but I left only being able to talk about Christy Wright. I immediately drove to the nearest Starbucks and say that for hours starting into the book. This book is why I am so passionate about what I do and why I am so confident that I am going to be successful.
